CHINESE COMPOSER CHEN YI AT ODU THIS WEEK
Chen Yi, a leading Chinese composer who has studied music in both China and the United States, will give a lecture, conduct a master class and perform in concert on campus this week.
In addition, Old Dominion University Libraries and Virginia Arts Festival 2004 are sponsoring an exhibit, "Translations and Transformations: The Compositions of Chen Yi," which emphasizes the composer's musical connection to both cultures. The exhibit is available for public viewing in ODU's Diehn Composers Room, Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center, through May 31. For more information visit www.lib.odu.edu/exhibits/chenyi.
Chen Yi's appearances on campus are scheduled as follows:
- Wednesday, April 28 - Composition Master Class, Diehn Composers Room - Reading Room, Diehn Center, 1-2 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 28 - Pre-concert talk, "Insider Insights," Chandler Recital Hall, Diehn Center, 6:30-7:30 p.m. (free with paid concert ticket)
- Wednesday, April 28 - Concert, "Mozart and More Chamber Music," Chandler Recital Hall, Diehn Center, 7:30 p.m. (reception in the Diehn Composers Room following concert).
