CHEN EXHIBITS, CONCERT, LECTURES AT ODU

The Old Dominion University libraries and the Virginia Arts Festival 2004 are sponsoring an exhibit highlighting Chen Yi, a leading Chinese composer who has studied music in both China and the United States.

"Translations and Transformations: The Compositions of Chen Yi" emphasizes the composer's musical connection to both cultures. The exhibit is available for public viewing in the Diehn Composers Room from through May 31. A gateway to Chen Yi's official Web site will be available online at http://www.lib.odu.edu/exhibits/chenyi.

As part of the Virginia Arts Festival 2004, Chen Yi will deliver a lecture, "Composition: the Creative Process," in the Diehn Composers's Room of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27.

Chen will also present a talk, "Insider Insight," at Chandler Hall in the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 28. The talk will be followed immediately by a concert of two of her compositions, "Chinese Ancient Dance Suite" and "Night Thoughts" at 7:30 p.m. A reception in the Diehn Composers Room will follow the concert.
