TOM CASH RECEIVES 20TH ANNUAL FACULTY RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Thomas F. Cash, professor of psychology, received the 20th annual Old Dominion University Faculty Research Achievement Award at the university's inaugural Research Day Tuesday.

The award, which includes $1000 and a plaque, is presented each spring to a tenured faculty member who has exhibited consistent excellence in his or her research efforts. The award recognizes the accomplishments of faculty who achieve national prominence for high-quality research and scholarship.

An Old Dominion faculty member since 1973, Cash's research has focused on body image and its implications for psychological well-being. He has published more than 100 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and is the author of several books and numerous audio publications on body image. In 2003 he was named a fellow of the American Psychology Society.

The founder and editor-in-chief of "Body Image: An International Journal of Research," Cash has served as associate editor for the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology and consulting editor for the International Journal of Eating Disorders, Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, Psychological Assessment and Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology.

Cash is a member of the American Psychological Association, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, American Psychological Society and Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy. He received a Ph.D. from the George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.
