HEALTH SCIENCES RESEARCH DAY IS MARCH 31

Old Dominion University's College of Health Sciences will hold its annual Research Day Wednesday, March 31 in the Hampton/Newport News Room of Webb University Center.

Poster presentations on such topics as diabetes care, oral cancer, vaccine safety, cultural competency in nurse practitioners and maternal/fetal attachment will take place from 4-5 p.m.

At 5 p.m., Lisa Eckenwiler, associate professor of philosophy at Old Dominion, will deliver the keynote address, "Re-mapping the Research Ethics Terrain." She will discuss the creation of the Consortium to Examine Clinical Research Ethics and the organization's goals and preliminary findings.

The event will conclude with oral presentations of six faculty and student research projects, beginning at 6 p.m. Topics include:
*"Using Standardized Patients to Teach Nurse Practitioners about Patients Harmed by Domestic Violence: Student Responses;"
*"Benefits of a Church Sponsored Community Health Fair in an Urban Setting;"
*"Achieving Academic Excellence in Food Safety Certification of Culinary Students;"
*"Orthodromic Assessment of the Sensory Component of the Ulnar Nerve Across the Elbow;"
*"An Update on the Reliability of Standardized Patients Scoring in Physical Therapy," and
*"Community Level Correlates to Commercial Sex in China."
