WHEELAN AT ODU THURSDAY
The Black History Month Closing Program titled "Separate, But Not Equal: The Story of Segregated Education," a panel discussion featuring Belle Wheelan, Virginia secretary of education, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in the North Cafeteria at Old Dominion University's Webb University Center.
The discussion will cover how the historic court case Brown v. Board of Education forged critical change in the nation's educational system. Wheelan will be joined by Al Rollins, former ODU president; Elaine Witty, former dean of education at Norfolk State University; Cecelia Tucker, assistant to the president at ODU; and other distinguished guest panelists as they relive the struggles and triumphs that led to the desegregation of America's educational system.
The panel is free and open to the public. More information is available by calling 683-5490.
