EATING DISORDERS AWARENESS WEEK BEGINS FEB. 23

During National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Feb. 23-27, films, lectures, fitness classes and screenings for eating disorders will take place across the Old Dominion University campus. The events are sponsored by the Athletic Department, Counseling Services, Women's Center, Student Health Services, Recreational Sports Department, Multicultural Student Services and the Student Senate. For more information call 683-4401. Below is a schedule of events:

Monday, Feb. 23-Friday, Feb. 27
"Test Your Eating IQ!"
Anonymous screenings for eating disorders and information on how to stop letting food, weight and calories control your life are available all week at table outside each program and at table displays in the South Mall of Webb Center.

Free Group Fitness Classes through Recreational Sports Department
Check out the schedule for low- and high- impact aerobics, strength training, kick boxing, yolates, boot camp and more at www.odu.edu/recsports.

Monday, Feb. 23
"Still Killing Us Softly: Advertising's Images to Women,"
6-7 p.m., Cape Charles Room, Webb Center
Hosted by Jean Kilbourne, visiting research scholar at the Wellesley Centers for Women whose pioneering work helped develop the study of gender representation examines in this documentary the images of women in television and print advertising. Facilitated by Angela Jones and Tammy Hatfield, Counseling Services.

Tuesday, Feb. 24
"My Secret Hunger: Signs and Symptoms of Eating Disorders,"
12:30-1:15 p.m., Isle of Wight Room, Webb Center
Learn how to recognize the warning signs and symptoms of eating disorders. Facilitated by Tammy Hatfield, Counseling Services.

"Nutrition for the Elite Athlete"
7:30 p.m., South Cafeteria, Webb Center,
Learn about proper nutrition for maximum athletic performance. Facilitated by Shelia Bailey, RD, ACSM, HFI certified.

Thursday, Feb. 24
"Diet Wars: Where Is the Truth?"
12:30-1:30 p.m., Room 1002, Constant Hall
Discover the truth about the latest fad diets and associated health implications. Facilitated by David Swain and Sheri Colberg-Ochs, Exercise Science, Sport, Physical Education and Recreation Department, Woody Schwitzer, Counseling Services , and Jodi Bromely, M.S.Ed.
