BUCKLEY PRESIDENT'S LECTURE IS FEB. 12

Gail Buckley, writer and chronicler of undiscovered American history, will speak Thursday, Feb. 12, as part of Old Dominion's President's Lecture Series. Her talk, "Black America at War: From George Washington to George Bush," will be held at 8 p.m. in the Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building Auditorium. It is free and open to all public.

Buckley's first book, "The Hornes: An American Family," is an inspired history of her mother, musical legend Lena Horne. Her latest work, "American Patriots: The story of Blacks in the Military from the Revolution to Desert Storm," chronicles an untold part of American history about the heroes that were left out of textbooks.

A graduate of Radcliffe College, Buckley has narrated a documentary on black American families for PBS and has written articles for numerous magazines including the New York Times and The Los Angeles Times. She was nominated for a NAACP Image Award and received the 2002 Robert F. Kennedy Book Award for American Patriots.
