PRESIDENT OF NORTHROP GRUMMAN NEWPORT NEWS TO ADDRESS ECONOMICS CLUB OF HAMPTON ROADS

Thomas Schievelbein, president of Northrop Grumman Newport News, will speak at the Economics Club of Hampton Roads luncheon at noon Wednesday, Feb. 11.

Co-sponsored by Old Dominion University's College of Business and Public Administration, the luncheon will be held at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel in Norfolk. The cost is $30 for nonmembers. Due to limited space, reservations are required.
Northrop Grumman Newport News is the nation's sole designer, builder and refueler of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one of only two companies capable of designing and building nuclear-powered submarines.

Schievelbein began his career with Northrop Grumman Newport News in 1987, where he is now responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines. He has served as vice president for human resources and administration, strategy and naval program development and naval marketing. Previously, he worked for General Electric Co. in Marine and Defense Facilities Sales.

Schievelbein earned his bachelor's degree in marine engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and his master's degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Virginia. He received an honorary doctorate from Old Dominion in 2003.

He serves on the board of directors for the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation, the American Shipbuilding Association and the Naval Submarine League. Schievelbein is a founding member of the Virginia Career Education Foundation and a member of the Association of Naval Aviation. He is a past member of the board of directors of the Washington, D.C., Council Navy League, the Naval Submarine League Advisory Council and the board of trustees for the National Security Industrial Association.
