ODU TAX UPDATE SEMINAR WITH COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA TREASURER FREE FOR ODU COMMUNITY
State Treasurer of Virginia Jody Wagner will be the keynote speaker at Old Dominion University's Tax Update Seminar Thursday, Jan. 15. The event is free for Old Dominion University faculty, staff and students and $15 for the public. A continental breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. in the Hampton/Newport News Room of Webb University Center. Wagner will speak at 8 a.m. followed by a tax update presentation by Shirley Baldwin of the accounting firm Wall, Einhorn and Chernitzer. The program will conclude at 10 a.m.
Sponsored by the Insurance and Financial Services Center and the Professional Financial Planning Program of the College of Business and Public Administration. Continuing education credit in accounting, financial planning, insurance and legal studies has been applied for by ODU's Executive Development Center.
Wagner previously worked for 21 years at the law firm of Kaufman and Canoles in Norfolk where she served as issuer's and underwriter's counsel in initial public offerings, private placements and secondary offerings of equity and debt instruments. She represented registered companies in mergers, share exchanges and acquisitions, regulatory filing and disclosure obligations and insider trading compliance, with significant experience working with community banks and bank holding companies.
Wagner has a law degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law and a bachelor's degree in economics from Northwestern University. She serves on the Eastern Virginia Medical School Board of Visitors and the boards of several other local charitable and educational organizations.
