GPIS LECTURE, SEMINAR AND CONFERENCE ARE FEB. 6

Eric Miller, an analyst at the National Institute for Public Policy in Fairfax, Va., and managing editor of the journal "Comparative Strategy," will be giving a speech entitled "U.S. Policy Toward the Caucasus: Who Cares? Why Now? What Now?" at noon Friday, Feb. 6, in the James River Room of Webb University Center.

Miller also will participate in an International Career Seminar at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, also in the James River Room. The seminar will include Ambassador Bismarck Myrick, Eric Miller and John Heyl, director of international programs at ODU, speaking and answering questions about their experiences in their international careers.

All ODU faculty and students also are welcome at the fourth Graduate Research Conference, 7:30a.m.-6 p.m. in Webb University Center. The conference brings together young scholars presenting their research for discussion and development. ODU graduate students are joined by students from graduate programs at Duke, George Mason, Virginia, George Washington, North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Concordia, Virginia Tech and Tidewater Community College.

Miller currently serves as special assistant to the U.S. representative on the International Security Advisory Board for the former Russian republic of Georgia, and as program coordinator for the Washington D.C.-based Georgia Forum.

He was an election observer for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe during the November 2003 Georgian parliamentary election and was based in the Ajaran region. Miller has also served as a consultant with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Joint Forces Staff College.
