ODU SOCCER PLAYERS, COACH HONORED
Junior defender Trevor McEachron and Senior Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) were named to the NSCAA/AAdidas All-American team after an impressive season on the Old Dominion men's soccer team.
McEachron was named First-Team All-American for his role in ODU's stellar defense this season. McEachron's selection marks the first time a Monarch has received 1st team All-American since Tim Borer in 1985 and the first time since 1999 that a Monarch has been selected to the All-American Team.
Senior forward Attila Vendegh, who will participate in the Major League Soccer Player Combine in January, was named to the Second Team, his first All-American selection. McEachron was also named First Team All-American by College Soccer News, while Vendegh was Third-Team. McEachron and Vendegh were previously named Honorable Mention All-American by College Soccer News.
Old Dominion's men's soccer head coach, Alan Dawson, was named the 2003 NSCAA/Adidas NCAA Division I-South Atlantic regional coach of the year, his first such honor at the Division I level. Last month, Coach Dawson was named the Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year for the third time in the past five years, as ODU amassed a 15-4-1 overall record (6-2-1 in the CAA) and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Men's College Cup for the second consecutive year, before bowing to #2 seed Maryland 2-1.
Coach Dawson is also one of eight finalists for NSCAA Division I Coach of the Year honors.
