ODU BIOLOGY PROFESSOR'S RESEARCH CITED AS ONE OF TOP SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERIES OF THE YEAR

Research on animals' use of magnetic fields for orientation by visiting assistant professor of Biological Sciences at Old Dominion University, Larry C. Boles was cited by "Discover" magazine as one of the top 100 scientific discoveries of the year. Boles published the work with his doctoral advisor Kenneth J. Lohmann, professor of Biology at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

Boles' research was ranked 65th out of the year's top 100 discoveries in the most recent issue of "Discover" magazine. His article, "True navigation and magnetic maps in spiny lobsters" was published in the Jan. 2, 2003 issue of "Nature."
