PRESIDENT TO HELP DAFFODIL PLANTING TUESDAY

Please join the Old Dominion University community in planting a sign of hope, in making the statement that you believe in ODU and that you want to contribute just a little bit to make our campus an even more beautiful setting to live, study and work.

We are asking people to donate a dollar to the ODU daffodil fund and/or to come out at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, to help us plant flower bulbs around the pond at the Oceanography and Physics Building.

Daffodils are a sure sign of spring. Our grounds crew tells me that they are perfectly suited to our growing conditions and that squirrels do not like to eat them.

Imagine our campus glowing with the color of thousands of daffodils. We hope to plant a thousand bulbs each year for the next few years. Next year we will plant on the Williamsburg Lawn and, the following year, by the crepe myrtles lining Kaufman Mall.

This is one small way in which we can each contribute to making ODU more beautiful and to leaving our legacy -- a long-lasting and colorful backdrop for students, faculty and staff.

Please join in making our spring setting glorious. I thank Dana Burnett and the Student Senate most especially for their assistance with this project. I look forward to seeing you around the pond.
