INTERNATIONAL-STUDENT WEB SITE OFFERED

In conjunction with International Education Week Nov. 17-21, national intensive English instruction groups in connection with federal officials, have launched a new Web site to provide details about the economic impact students have on their regions, international sudent volunteer efforts made in their communities and a review of relevant legislation and testimony.

The Web address is www.internationaleducationmatters.org.

For example, foreign students spent more than $250 million in Virginia in 2002-03, according to data provided on the site. Foreign students comprise more than 4 percent of American's total higher education population, but they contribute more than $12 billion to the U.S. economy in tuition, living expenses and related costs.

ODU has approximately 1,200 international students and about a quarter pass through the English Language Center, according to Director Karen Medina. For more information on ODU's language center, contact Medina at 683-4327.
