CHINA/INDIA ECONOMIES EXPLORED NOV. 19
"The Tortoise and the Hare: Economic Development in India and China," a symposium sponsored by Old Dominion University's Institute of Asian Studies, will be from 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in room 921 of the Batten Arts and Letters Building.
The gap in economic development between China and India, which together comprise a third of the world's population, has posed intriguing questions to policy makers, academics, and the international business community. Why has China under authoritarian regimes been ahead of India, the world's largest democracy, in economic development? What are the prospects of the race between China and India?
The symposium will address these questions by comparing the political and economic systems and business environments of both countries, and examining cases of various industries (e.g., software and hardware manufacturing industries) and foreign investments.
Panelists include Shaomin Li, associate professor of management at ODU; and Anil Nair, associate professor of management and international business. The moderator will be Jie Chen, director of the Institute of Asian Studies and associate professor of political science.
