'VENUS' PERFORMED AT STABLES THEATRE NOV. 7-16

Old Dominion University Theatre will continue its 2003-04 season Nov. 7-16 with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks' controversial "Venus" at The Stables Theatre.

Under the direction of Erlene Hendrix, the play is based on the true tale of Sarah (Saartje) Baartman, a South African woman of the early 19th Century who was exhibited in London and Paris for the unusually large size of her buttocks. Through innovative characters and dynamic language, Parks constructs a fascinating tale combining circus, vaudeville, the absurd, and dramatic action. The play's language and content are intended for mature audiences.

Show times are 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission; $8 for non-ODU students and groups; and $5 for ODU students with valid identification. The Stables Theatre is located between 46th and 47th Street on Monarch Way. Call 683-5305 for tickets and further information.
