SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS WEEK IS OCT. 20-24

Sexual Assault Awareness Week begins at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, with the eighth annual candlelight vigil demonstrating men's support for ending violence against women. The Women's Center will display the Clothesline Project, a visual display of T-shirts designed by women violence survivors or by those affected by violence against women. Sigma Lambda Upsilon and Delta Sigma Lambda are sponsoring the event and will provide materials for making T-shirts during the vigil.

Ongoing events throughout the week include a white ribbon campaign, sponsored by the Men's Center Without Walls and an art display at the Women's Center. For more information call 683-4109. Below are more events planned for the week:

Oct. 21-"Preventing Sexual Assault," 12:30-1:30 p.m., Virginia Beach Room, Webb Center. Presented by a counselor and advocate from RESPONSE, Sexual Assault Support Services. Co-sponsored by Sigma Gamma Rho and Monarch Dance Team.

"Willow Song: In Memoriam," 7 p.m., Diehn Center. Sponsored by ODU Theater and Division of Student Services. Co-sponsored by Student Senate and Monarch Dance Team.

Oct.22-"Sex and Violence," noon to 1 p.m., Cape Charles Room, Webb Center. Presented by Tammy Hatfield, Counseling Services. Co-sposored by Sigma Tau Delta.

"I Will Survive: An African-American Guide to Healing from Sexual Assault and Abuse," 6 - 8 p.m., River Rooms, Webb Center. Presented by author and survivor, Lori Robinson. Co-sponsored by Student Activities and Leadership, Multicultural Student Services, Student Senate, Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, Department of Psychology, Department of Women's Studies, University Women's Caucus, Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. Refreshments provided by Black Student Alliance.

Oct. 23--Featured Film: "Enough," 6 - 9 p.m., Room 101 Mills Godwin Jr. Building. Screening and discussion of the movie starring Jennifer Lopez and Billy Campbell that addresses domestic violence and what happens when you finally have had enough. Facilitated by Becki Fogerty of the Women's Center. Co-sponsored by Sigma Lambda Upsilon.

Oct. 24-Closing Celebration: "I'm Still Standing: From Tragedy to Triumph" Presented by The ODU Speech Chorus, noon to 1 p.m., Potomac/York River Rooms, Webb Center. Co-sponsored by Delta Sigma Lambda.
