RABIH TALHOUK IS NEXT BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES SEMINAR SPEAKER OCT. 30

Rabih Talhouk from the American University of Beirut is the next speaker in the Biological Sciences Seminar Series at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 in room 101 of the Mills Godwin Jr. Building.

His talk, "Gap Junction Role in Epithelial Cell Differentiation; The Mammary Gland- A Model Tissue," will focus on developmental regulation of mammary gland gap junctions and their role in epithelial cell differentiation.

Talhouk was chairman of the biology department at the American University of Beirut for three years. His laboratory work focuses on deciphering the mechanisms that regulate interaction of cells with their microenvironment. His work also focuses on investigating claimed anti-inflammatory bioactivities in Lebanese indigenous plants, which are commonly used in folk medicine.

Talhouk received his bachelor's degree in agriculture and master's degree in animal sciences from the American University of Beirut. He received his doctorate in Lactational Physiology and Cell Biology from Ohio State University.
