MODEL U.N. DAY CELEBRATED AT ODU OCT. 23-25
The Model United Nations Program at Old Dominion University is hosting a United Nations Day celebration Oct. 23-25.
Virginia Gov. Mark Warner has recognized Friday, Oct. 24, as United Nations Day in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He has called this observance to the attention of all the citizens of the Commonwealth.

Thursday, Oct. 23
9 a.m. to 4 p.m., United National education table, Webb University Center
12:30-1:30 p.m., student debate, "Should the United Nations Security Council Expand Permanent Membership to Reflect Current World Demographics?"
Friday, Oct. 24
9 a.m. to 4 p.m., United National education table, Webb University Center
12:30-2 p.m., panel discussion, "Under What Conditions is the Use of Preemptive Force Justifiable?", panelists include Ambassador Bismarck Myrick; Maj. Gen. Kenneth J. Quinlan, U.S. Commandant, Joint Forces Staff College; Kurt T. Gaubatz and Regina Karp, Old Dominion University. Moderated by retired U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Ray Taylor.
5-7 p.m., lecture on United Nations Reform, "United National Reform," by Dmitri Argyriades, consultant on governance and capacity-building for the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
Both the debate and the lecture on Friday, Oct. 24, are free and open to the public.
Saturday, Oct. 25
10 a.m.-5 p.m., Education seminar for high school model United Nations faculty and sponsors.
