CAREGIVERS CONFERENCE OCT. 28 AT ODU

The subject is aging, and the forum, a talk-show style "town meeting." Older people and their families can ask state policy makers questions about senior issues when Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia (SSSEVA) presents a "Virginia Town Hall Meeting on Aging" from 1:30-3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Ted Constant Convocation Center at Old Dominion University.

This event is part of the organization's three-part "Series on Aging."

The town hall panel will include Jane Woods, Virginia secretary for health and human resources; Jay W. DeBoer, commissioner, Virginia Department for the Aging; and John Skirven, executive director, SSSEVA and president of the Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging. Cathy Lewis, host of the WHRV Public Radio's program "Hear-Say," will moderate the question-and-answer session. Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital is sponsoring the Oct. 28 event.

The "Series on Aging" will continue Dec. 4 with a national town hall meeting conducted by U.S. Assistant Secretary for Aging Josefina G. Carbonell, who will address national economic and demographic trends and the challenges facing caregivers of older adults. The series will conclude next spring (date to be determined) when Eastern Virginia Medical School's Dr. Stefan Gravenstein looks at the future of aging in Hampton Roads. Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group and Wachovia Corporation will serve as event sponsors.

To reserve free tickets (available on a first-come/first-serve basis) contact Barbara Barnes at 461-9481, extension 161. Separate tickets are required for each of the events, all of which will take place at the Ted Constant Convocation Center at Old Dominion University.
