BUDDY WALK IS OCT. 4

Coach Wendy Larry and members of her Lady Monarch basketball squad will team up again with the Tidewater Down Syndrome Association for the second annual Buddy Walk, to be held on the Old Dominion University campus Saturday, Oct. 4.

Money collected through the Buddy Walk is used to improve the lives of local residents with Down syndrome as well as to provide funds for medical and educational research at the national level. The registration fee for the walk is $5. Donations and sponsorships of walkers are also encouraged.

Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. the day of the walk at the ODU Field House, located on Parker Avenue, just off 49th Street. The half-mile Buddy Walk begins at 1 p.m. Festivities will follow the walk at the Field House.

Developed in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society, the annual event has grown to more than 150 walks this year.

Donations, with checks payable to TDSA, may be mailed to: Buddy Walk, c/o Cheryl Ward, 3257 Indian Creek Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23457. Those wishing to serve as volunteers for the Buddy Walk should contact Joan Blind at 479-1756 or jmb5221@aol.com.
