ODU'S BIG BLUE IS IN THE ZOO
Old Dominion University's main Monarch, Big Blue, will join his pride at the Virginia Zoo lions' den for a roaring good time when the university officially adopts the exhibit in the Zoo's Africa Okavango Delta at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29.
Big Blue will assist Old Dominion President Roseann Runte and Virginia Zoo Executive Director Lewis Greene in unveiling a new reader board, which names the university as the exhibit sponsor and provides visitors with the history of ODU. Old Dominion Provost Tom Isenhour, who also serves on the Zoo's Board of Directors, will also take part in the ceremony.
The "adoption" is an effort by Old Dominion to strengthen its community relationships as well as an opportunity to create more internships and job opportunities for its students. Additionally, the university will offer discounted admission to its basketball games for Zoo members and the Zoo, in turn, will offer discounts to ODU students, season ticket holders and members of the university's Big Blue Club.
