NEW ODU EMAIL POLICIES IN EFFECT
Many are aware that the number of harmful email-based viruses increases daily and sometimes these viruses occur faster than they can be addressed. Based on the recent virus outbreaks, Old Dominion University's Office of Computing and Communication Services is taking steps to manage email that has attachments, which have a high probability for carrying a virus.
According to Microsoft, there are 47 known file types that have a high level of risk for containing a virus. To protect the University's systems, OCCS will implement technology that will prevent delivery of email containing high risk attachments to any ODU email address.
The OCCS web site provides details on this action and will be updated regularly: http://www.odu.edu/af/occs/security/emailvirus_extensions.html.
