LACROSSE PLAYERS ON ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL
ODU women's lacrosse players Danielle Hensil, Marlaine Smith and Kelly Jefferys were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll.
In order to be considered for the academic honor, student athletes must have attained a cumulative 3.5 grade point average or higher. Hensil, who participated in the annual North-South Senior All-Star game earlier this month, earned a 3.6 GPA in Health and Physical Education.
A First Team All-CAA selection, she was the only Lady Monarch to score in all 16 games in 2003. She finished her career ranked fourth on ODU's all-time points, goals, and assists leaders list after registering 38 goals, 10 assists, and 48 points this season.
Fellow senior midfielder Smith earned a 3.54 in recreation and leisure studies. A Second Team All-CAA Selection, Smith ranked second in the country in draw controls averaging 4.67 per game. Smith was second on the squad in ground balls with 37 and was tied along with Hensil with a team second best 15 caused turnovers.
Jefferys, a member of the Lady Monarch defense majoring in nursing, earned a 3.54 grade point average in the classroom as well. Jefferys appeared in all 16 games in 2003, recording 16 groundballs, nine caused turnovers, and eight draw controls. Her defensive efforts helped the Lady Monarchs keep four opponents to single digits scoring, including an opponent low of five goals at Temple in late March.
