ODU GOLFERS FINISH 15TH IN NCAA TOURNEY

The Old Dominion men's golf team finished the 2003 NCAA Tournament tied with the University of Denver and Stanford University for 15th place in the Western Regional hosted by Washington National Golf Course. The Monarchs combined to shoot a 37-over 901 for the three-day tournament.

Leading the team was senior Geoff Harris who shot an even 72 on Saturday to finish the tournament with a six-over-par 222. Chris Piercy was right behind him with a 7-over 223 while Nick Kenney finished with a score of 226, 10-over par. Rounding out the team was Chris Kline with a 231 and Greg Sampson who totaled a 234. The Monarchs put together their best round on Saturday with an eight-over 296, after combining for a 302 on Thursday and a 303 on Friday.

The UCLA Bruins shot an even-par 864 as a team to win the West Regional, holding off Arizona by just one.

Michael Letzig from New Mexico came in first in the individual standings as he tallied an eight-under 208. He helped lead the Lobos to an eighth place tie, qualifying them for the championship. Arizona's Ricky Barnes (211) and Chris Nallen (212) finished behind Letzig in second and third respectively.
