RESEARCHERS DELIVER SCIENCES LECTURES APRIL 28
Elaine N. Aron and Arthur Aron of the State University of New York at Stony Brook will discuss the phenomenon of highly-sensitive people (HSP) during two lectures Monday, April 28, as part of the Spring 2003 Distinguished Visitors Lecture Series of the Old Dominion College of Sciences.
In a public lecture from noon to 1 p.m. April 28 in room 100 of Kaufman Hall, the Arons will discuss physical and mental health implications for highly-sensitive people. A second scientifically-oriented talk on "Close Relationships: Health, Including Other in the Self and the Benefits of Shared Self-Expanding Activities" will be from 3-4:15 p.m. in room 151 of the Perry Library with a reception to follow.
High sensitivity is an example of an inherited temperament trait being studied in adulthood. Their research and those of others on high sensitivity and its relation to physical and mental health has uncovered an important interaction effect: The quality of one's childhood and one's current environment have more effect on the health of HSP than they do on the population in general.
