AMBASSADOR TO DISCUSS S. AFRICA APRIL 23

Ambassador Bismark Myrick, university lecturer in international Affairs at Old Dominion University, will discuss "Conflict Management in the New South Africa: A U.S. Diplomat's Perspective" from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in the Burgess Room of the Batten Arts and Letters Building.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service of the United States, Ambassador Myrick served as Ambassador to the Republic of Liberia from 1999-2002. He was Ambassador to the Kingdom of Lesotho from 1995-1998. He also served as Principal Officer in both Cape Town and Durban, South Africa, from 1990-1995.

Previously Ambassador Myrick served as a U.S. Department of State Action Officer in the Office of Strategic Nuclear Policy and Chairman of the Interagency Working Group on Nuclear Testing Arms Control. He was Deputy Director of Policy Plans and Coordination in the Bureau of Inter-American Affairs. He also was Country Officer for Somalia.

Ambassador Myrick also participates as a senior fellow at the Joint Forces Staff College. Spelman College awarded him a Doctor of Humane Letters Degree. Myrick is co-author of "Three Aspects of Crisis in Colonial Kenya."
