VIDEO FESTIVAL CONTINUES MONDAY
The 2003 Old Dominion University Film and Video Festival, titled "Soundtracks: Music in Film and Television," will be held March 30-April 4. All events are free and open to the public and will take place on the Old Dominion campus in room 102 of the Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building unless noted.

9 a.m.
"Animated Music: Cartoons as Concertos," a presentation by Terry Lindvall, distinguished chair of visual communication, president emeritus and professor, Department of Communication Studies, Regent University. An event highlighting the classic art of "mickey-mousing," or matching music to animated images, made popular by studios such as Disney and Warner Brothers.
12 p.m.
"Moulin Rouge" (2001) Introductory remarks by Jenn Sloggie, instructor of English, Old Dominion University. Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor star in this film, where modern rock music catapults a love story between the two actors during the Paris of the late 1890s. Set in the bohemian underworld of Montmartre, the film offers beautiful costumes and a lively unfolding of its story. Running time - 127 minutes.
3 p.m.
"Sex, Drugs, and Classical Music: The Composer Biopics of Ken Russell and Tony Palmer," a presentation by John Tibbetts, associate professor, Department of Theatre and Film, University of Kansas. This is a program of composer biographies on film that challenge traditional methods and ambitions of historiography. Through a lecture and film clips, the audience will see that these films reveal the relevance of classical music and music making to today's popular music scene.

"My Father, the Genius" (2001) Introduction and discussion by filmmaker Lucia Small and composer Kaoru Ishibashi. Director and daughter Lucia Small recounts the story of her father's struggle between his work, his genius mind, and his familial relationships; soundtrack by Kaorie Ishibashi. Running time - 84 minutes.
