PRECAUTIONS FOR THREAT LEVEL ORANGE

With the nation at terror alert level orange, Old Dominion University Interim Police Chief Bill Quinn has issued safety precautions for the campus and local higher education centers.

"These safety measures are issued not as an urgent warning, but as cautionary advice," Quinn said. "They in no way indicate an immediate threat to Old Dominion, but rather a greater need for awareness and caution."

Faculty, staff and students should:

�Cooperate with parking restrictions;
�Report all suspicious persons or activity to ODU Police;
�Watch for suspicious packages and report their presence to ODU Police;
�Avoid leaving briefcases or packages unattended in public areas;
�Discuss building evacuation plans and possible responses to violent incidents in their work place;
�Carry university identification at all times when on campus;
�Be aware of their surroundings; and
�Maintain normal activities, but with a heightened sense of alertness.

Orange, the second highest level in the nation's terror alert system, indicates a high risk of terrorist attack. The level was raised Monday evening after President George Bush addressed the nation on a possible war with Iraq.
