LOCATION CHANGED FOR RELAY FOR LIFE APRIL 11-12
Due to inclement weather, Old Dominion University's Relay for Life from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. this Friday, April 11 to Saturday, April 12 has been moved from Powhatan Field to Webb Center Cafeteria. More than 400 students, faculty and staff from ODU and dozens of cancer survivors of all ages will participate in this event benefiting the American Cancer Society.
The event is free of charge and open to the public. Since November, more than 40 teams made up of ODU students, faculty, staff and family have raised more than $11,000 to help fight cancer. Organizers of this year's event hope to exceed their goal of $25,000.
The event begins at 6 p.m. April 11 with a survivors' reception, opening ceremonies and live bands in the Webb Center Cafeteria. Cancer survivors will walk the first lap at 7:15 p.m. Each team will have at least one team member on the course walking or running laps throughout the evening until 9 a.m. Saturday.
Supporters can help in the following ways:
Consider joining a team and raising money to help fight cancer. Email dthor003@odu.edu to be placed on a team.
Contribute financially to teams that have already been formed. If you wish to make a donation, look for a Relay for Life coin box around campus, or visit the Campus Information Center Desk in Webb Center and tell the staff you'd like to make a donation to the ODU Relay for Life.
Come out to the event. Four hours of live bands will play for your listening enjoyment. Bring a friend and a donation to the American Cancer Society.
Invite a survivor of cancer to the event. This event celebrates those who have won their battle with cancer and remembers those who have lost theirs.
