END RACISM DAY IS APRIL 10; WEEK OF EVENTS SCHEDULED AT ODU

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination will be observed at Old Dominion University at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, on Kaufman Mall, wrapping up a week of activities marking the occasion.

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination was first observed on March 21, 2001, with the purpose to renew efforts to eradicate racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance. The United Nations used this observance of the International Day to focus attention on the 2001 World Conference held in South Africa.

Saturday, April 5
Diversity Leadership Lab, for student leaders interested in learning and sharing their own experiences on racism, heterosexism, classism, creedism and sexism, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Mills Godwin Jr. Life Sciences Building auditorium. Sign-up at Office of Student Activities and Leadership.

Monday, April 7
Express Yourself: "No Hate/Know Love," collection of views on how we can eliminate racism, heterosexism, classism, creedism and sexism, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Webb University Center or Perry
Library. Through April 10.

Thursday - April 10
Proclamation by President Roseann Runte marking April 10 as Old Dominion University's official "End Racism Day," 12:30-1:30 p.m., Kaufman Mall (rain site, North Mall, Webb University Center).
