EMORY U. MIDDLE EAST EXPERT SPEAKS AT ODU FEB. 27
The Old Dominion University Center for Regional and Global Study will present a lecture by Kenneth W. Stein, professor of contemporary Middle Eastern history and Israeli studies at Emory University in Atlanta, titled "Israel and the Arab World in the 21st Century" at noon Thursday, Feb. 27, in the Burgess Room of the Batten Arts and Letters Building.
For the next decade if not longer, Stein notes, the leaders and people of the Middle East will be plagued by a multitude of religious, intellectual, economic and political issues. All challenge long-held assumptions about the best way to run regional affairs and all can be resolved only through fundamental adjustments, changes that are fiercely opposed and many involve ever worse threats of violence or outright warfare.
The talk is sponsored by the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater and CRGS. For additional information, contact the Center for Regional and Global Study at 683-4669, or professor Regina Karp at rkarp@odu.edu or 683-5700.
