"WILLOW SONG" PERFORMED THIS WEEKEND
Old Dominion University will present three performances of "Willow Song: In Memoriam," for one weekend only, Jan. 31 to Feb. 2. Conceived and directed by Christopher Hanna, with text by Frankie Little Hardin, "Willow Song" will be presented free of charge, with seats available on a first-come basis beginning one hour before performances.
In March 2002, the ODU Theatre Program lost one of its highly prized students. In memoriam, and in an effort to educate ourselves to the warning signals of relationships that have gone wrong, theatre students and faculty have collected interviews and memories from friends and loved ones, and from victims, counselors, police officers and perpetrators who experience the effects of abusive relationships from their own unique perspectives. These interviews are woven together with excerpts from Shakespeare's "Othello" to create "Willow Song" (Desdemona's song before her murder), a performance created both to commemorate a loved one and to caution her survivors.
"Willow Song" will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2. The performances will be in the Stables Theatre on the Old Dominion campus, at the corner of 46th Street and Monarch Way.
