ENGINEERING SIGNS ACADEMIC AGREEMENT WITH TURKISH AIR FORCE ACADEMY

Old Dominion University recently signed an International Memorandum of Understanding (IMOU) with the Turkish Air Force Academy, which allows officers of that service to study engineering at the College of Engineering and Technology.

President Roseann Runte signed the IMOU at a Nov. 21 ceremony with Turkish Air Force Academy representatives Col. Ismail Pakel, director of the Department of Educational Development, and Sefer Kurnaz, professor and director of the Aerospace and Space Technologies Institute.

Initiated by College of Engineering and Technology Interim Dean Oktay Baysal, the IMOU will allow officers from the Turkish Air Force Academy to come to Norfolk for eight months of engineering study, to include one semester of coursework and one semester of thesis research, on the Old Dominion campus. The students then will return to Turkey to complete their theses. After their theses are approved by Old Dominion and the Turkish Air Force Academy, the students will be eligible to receive master's degrees from Old Dominion.

Students will study Aerospace, Computer, and Electrical Engineering, as well as Engineering Management and Modeling and Simulation, and will be fully supported by the Turkish government.
