CONSTANT CENTER DESIGN EARNS OLD DOMINION AWARD
The project manager of Old Dominion University's new Ted Constant Convocation Center has received the 2002 Outstanding Agency Award from the Endependence Center Inc. of Norfolk for the convocation center's disability-friendly design.
Dave Robichaud, who managed the construction project, worked with the Endependence staff to review accessibility design requirements and discuss design elements to create a more accessible environment for the disabled at the Constant Center. He accepted the award along with John R. Broderick, vice president for institutional advancement.
Individuals with disabilities enjoy a high level of integration at the facility, including parking, accessible seating and an assistive listening system, Endependence officials said. Unobstructed views of events and the acessibility of the private boxes enable individuals with disabilities to enjoy events there to the fullest, officials said.
