ODU'S ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT PROGRAM RATED BEST IN THE NATION

For the second time in three years, Old Dominion University's Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering (EMSE) has been named the number-one engineering management graduate program in the country by the American Society of Engineering Management.

EMSE received the Excellence in Leadership Award for Graduate Programs at the society's annual conference held Oct. 2-5 in Tampa, Fla. The department also received this honor in 1995 and 2000.

Old Dominion's engineering management program was selected from more than 100 active graduate programs in engineering management in the United States, including those at Virginia Tech, George Washington University, the University of Central Florida and the University of Missouri - Rolla.

EMSE was cited for its reputation and contributions of scholarship and service to the profession; its efforts and leadership in curriculum and program development; its outreach efforts to support engineering management professionals through distance learning and unique mentorship-based training programs for industry and government; and its continued emphasis on the student as its primary client.

"Winning this award twice in three years is a major achievement for the department and our faculty," said Ralph Rogers, chair of the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering. "We knew we had an excellent program, and our students also knew we had an excellent program, as demonstrated by our exponential growth in the last four years. This award is validation of the success of the program by our colleagues in the engineering management discipline."
