"LYSISTRATA" OPENS THEATRE SEASON OCT. 11

Old Dominion University Theatre will open its 2002-03 season Friday, Oct. 11, with Aristophanes' classic comedy, "Lysistrata."

Under the direction of Erlene Hendrix, the production will combine choreography by Gwen Spear Meng and original music composed by Marcus Burke to suggest the rich spectacle that traditionally accompanied ancient Greek comedy.

When the women of Greece agree to end the Peloponnesian War by refusing their men sexual favors, things get uncomfortable all around. Lewd wordplay, farcical antics and bawdy costume designs work together to create one of the funniest anti-war statements the world has ever known.

"Lysistrata" runs through Oct. 27 at the University Theatre. Show times are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission, $8 for general students and groups, and $5 for ODU students with valid ID.

The University Theatre is located inside the Technology Building on Hampton Boulevard at 46th Street. For tickets or more information call 683-5305.
