GIFTED STUDENTS TO VISIT OLD DOMINION

More than 200 gifted and talented eighth- and ninth-graders and their parents from across the Mid-Atlantic region will visit the Old Dominion campus Nov. 2 for the Family Academic Conference on Explorations in Ocean Sciences.

Sponsored by the Center for Talented Youth (CTY) at Johns Hopkins University, the Old Dominion conference and others like it nationwide nurtures academic talent at the pre-collegiate level. Old Dominion's Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences was chosen by Johns Hopkins to host the conference.

The students and their parents will participate in hands-on workshops and demonstrations in ocean sciences. The workshops will be given by Old Dominion faculty from the colleges of Sciences and Education, as well as by staff from the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.

Old Dominion's Student Ambassadors and members of the Pre-Health Club will guide the student and parent groups around
the Norfolk campus. Keynote speakers include Mark Swingle of the Virginia Marine Science Museum Marine Animal
Rescue Team.
