CVC CAMPAIGN SETS $113,000 GOAL

In the coming weeks, state employees throughout Virginia will have an opportunity to help those less fortunate by contributing to the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC).

Leaders for the Old Dominion portion of the effort are hopeful that the campus community will once again keep the university in the top spot for donations from state agencies in southeastern Virginia.

Last year, the university community topped its $113,000 goal by raising $121,728. The participation rate was 40.3 percent and the average employee gift was $146.66, up from the previous year's average of $140.42. This year, the campaign goal has been set once again at $113,000.

"Historically, Old Dominion employees have given generously to the charitable organizations participating in the campaign. I am confident that the university community will, once again, work together to exceed this year's goal," said Heather Huling, director of planning and development for distance learning, who once again is heading the campaign.

From now through November, employees will have an opportunity to contribute to one or more of 1,011 local, regional, national and international nonprofit health and humanitarian service organizations, including United Way of South Hampton Roads. Pledge cards and organization directories will be distributed in the coming weeks.

Other leaders of the campaign are faculty co-chair Lou Henry, dean of the Honors College, and staff co-chair Suzanne Finnerty of the Office of Graduate Studies.

Employees may make contributions to the campaign via cash, check or payroll deduction. The minimum contribution accepted via payroll deduction is 50 cents per pay period.

Employees who give $500 or more will receive special recognition from CVC or the United Way, depending on the agency or agencies selected for the contribution.

The CVC Leadership Giving Program recognizes those who contribute $150 or more with membership in four clubs, based on contribution levels: $150-$499, Commonwealth Club; $500-$999, Cardinal Club; $1,000-$2,999, Dogwood Club; and $3,000 or more, Virginia Club.

Employees who designate contributions to the United Way of South Hampton Roads at a level of $500 or more will be recognized as Keel Club members.
