COMMENTATOR/ANALYST TO DELIVER LECTURE OCT. 28

Nationally syndicated political commentator and analyst Rodney Salinas will be the keynote speaker for an event titled "Asian American Activism & Politics " from 5-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in the Potomac/York River Room of Old Dominion University's Webb University Center. Sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Services, the talk is free and open to the public.

Salinas will address the importance of political and public service and how Asian Pacific Americans can escape the label of "perpetual foreigner." In his talk, Salinas will also touch on his passion for utilizing new media, including the internet, to communicate with younger generations about politics and public policy.

As the founder and president of the Rainmaker Political Group LLC, Salinas is a nationally recognized leader on politics and public policy. He was named as a "Rising Star of Politics" by Campaigns and Elections magazine in April 2002. He is the publisher of two serials, PoliticalCircus.com and Slant Journal, both focusing on Asian-Pacific-American politics and his nationally syndicated column appears in Manila Bulletin USA and UCLA's Amerasian Journal, as well as many others nationwide.

As the former executive director of the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies, Salinas worked to bring national attention to issues facing Asian Pacific Americans and encouraged their involvement and participation in politics and pubic policy. He has appeared on "Asian American," a nationally syndicated weekly show airing on PBS, and has been featured in The Washington Post, FoxNews.com, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Las Vegas Review Journal, A. Magazine, Philippine News and Filipinas magazine.

Currently, Salinas is serving a three-year term on the Human Rights Commission for the city of Alexandria, Va.
