PERFORMING ARTS SEASON BEGINS WITH "DANCE INTO FALL" ON SEPT. 4-5

The Old Dominion University Dance Theatre will present "Dance Into Fall" at 8 p.m. Sept. 4-5 in the University Theatre, Hampton Boulevard between 46th and 47th streets.

The program will include work by special guest artists Heidi Echols Godfrey, Laura Warren and Meredith Sheppard, and Old Dominion dance faculty members Marilyn Marloff and Amanda Kinzer.

Marloff will reprise Kinetoscope, a lively trio for three women that celebrates "joie de vive" to music by Ungar and Mason. This trio received an enthusiastic response at its premiere in April 2002.

Kinzer will present two works performed by local artists. Intersection (2001) is a bustling trio to trance music that illustrates the hectic pace of daily life. She will also premiere Four Corners, a dance for four women to the invigorating music of Uakti, composed by Philip Glass.

Echols Godfrey, assistant professor of dance at Salem College in Winston-Salem, N.C., brings three works to Hampton Roads. Story, a poignant solo on guest performer Laura Warren, was premiered at the 2002 American College Dance Festival. Echols Godfrey and Warren will also perform a duet, and Echols Godfrey will perform a solo of her own choreography.

Tickets are available at the door: $10 for general admission, $8 for students and seniors, and $5 for ODU students. For more information, call 683-3002 or 683-4354. Tickets are available at the Arts and Letters box office in Chandler Recital Hall, 683-5305.
