FILIPINO WEAVERS EXAMINED DURING LECTURE OCT. 2

A tribute to indigenous weavers of the Philippines, featuring a discussion with author and former Philippines Sen. Anna Dominique Coseteng, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Old Dominion University.

The talk, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 1-3 p.m. in the Burgess Room of the Batten Arts and Letters Building.

Coseteng was twice elected twice to the Senate of the Philippines, serving from 1992 to 2001. The publication of "Sinaunang Habi: Philippine Ancestral Weave" represented her debut in the world of publishing. Well-known for her understanding of the arts, Coseteng has been at the forefront of advocacy work to recognize the value of culture in enhancing appreciation of difference and the participation of women in national development.

A reception follows the discussion. The lecture is sponsored by the Filipino American Center, the Department of Women's Studies, the Old Dominion Women's Center, the Institute of Asian Studies, the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice and the Center for Regional and Global Study.
