THREE ENGINEERING STUDENTS COMPLETE NASA SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Three Old Dominion University engineering students spent their summer break at NASA Langley Research Center as part of the Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars Program.

Samuel A. Miller of Williamsburg, Jason B. Shreve of Colonial Heights, Va., and Randy S. Woods of Virginia Beach joined 125 college and graduate students from across the nation for the highly competitive 10-week program.

Miller was in the Earth and Space Sciences Program Office where he created pilot application projects that demonstrate the use of satellite remote sensing data to address community issues. Shreve and Woods both worked in the Airborne Systems Competency, with Shreve modifying software for a UNIX-based E-MAG program while Woods develop a system to detect illegal use of personal electronic devices on commercial aircraft.
