MCCOMBS FEATURED IN NASA EXHIBIT

Gayle McCombs, assistant professor of dental hygiene, will be featured in a traveling exhibit produced by NASA Langley Research Center.

A photo of McCombs and doctoral student Ted Lynch working with an ultrasonic periodontal probe is one of several images that will be on a touch screen kiosk for NASA's Traveling Exhibits Program. The kiosks will be displayed at museums and events in a five-state region.

The probe was developed through research at NASA Langley in partnership with a Richmond-based business and the College of William and Mary, and is being tested at Old Dominion.

NASA is using the probe as an example of commercial applications for NASA research.

McCombs and her student researchers who are conducting some of the testing were also featured in a NASA video for the Discovery Channel.
