HAN BAO RECEIVES NASA LANGLEY GRANT
Han P. Bao, professor of mechanical engineering and Mitsubishi Kasei Chair of Manufacturing Engineering at Old Dominion University, recently received a $125,000 grant from NASA Langley Research Center to study cost estimation techniques applied to multidisciplinary optimization problems. The focus of his study will be the manufacturing processes for aircraft structures and their cost implications. This new grant is an extension of a previous grant in the same area of research.
Bao joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in December 1997 as the Mitsubishi Kasei Chaired Professor for Manufacturing. Prior to joining the ME Department, he held the same chaired position in the Department of Engineering Management at Old Dominion University. Bao's teaching and research interests are in the areas of manufacturing, integrated process and product design, and concurrent engineering.
