ECONOMICS CLUB ANNOUNCES 2002-03 SCHEDULE

The Old Dominion University Economics Club of Hampton Roads has announced its 2002-03 speaker series schedule and appointed new officers and board members for the upcoming year.

The new officers are: chairwoman, Old Dominion President Roseann Runte; president, retired Cox Communications vice president of public affairs and community programming Irvine Hill; and executive director and treasurer, Interim Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration Bruce Rubin.

The following new board members were also appointed: Michael S. Ives, SouthTrust Bank; Page Lea, Capes Capital Management; Bruce Nave, SunTrust Bank; Gary M. Philbin, Dollar Tree Stores; Owen Pickett, former U.S. Congressman; C. Edward Russell Jr., Kaufman and Canoles; and Steven E. Winter, Edgewater Asset Management.

International money laundering and associated financial crimes investigator John Moynihan will launch the 2002-03 speaker series with a luncheon talk Friday, Sept. 13. An Old Dominion alumnus, Moynihan has appeared on Fox News Channel and CNN and has testified before Congress.

Other scheduled luncheon speakers and dates are:
Oct. 25 � Robert Tedeschi, New York Times technology columnist;
Nov. 13 � Frank Cappiello, president, McCullough, Andrews & Cappiello;
Dec. 9 � Henry Aaron, senior fellow, Brookings Institution;
Jan. 15 � Economic Outlook Conference with Mark Zandi, economist, Regional Financial Association;
Feb. 5 � David Bernd, CEO, Sentara Healthcare;
March � TBA
April (TBD) � Werner DeBondt, professor of finance, University of Wisconsin; and
May 14 � Michael R. Young, attorney, Wilkie, Farr & Gallagher, NYC.

Co-sponsored by Old Dominion's College of Business and Public Administration, the luncheons will begin at noon and cost $30 for nonmembers. Luncheons will be held at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel in downtown Norfolk, with the exception of the Dec. 9 and Feb. 5 talks. Those luncheons will be held at the new Constant Convocation Center on the Old Dominion University campus. Due to limited space, reservations are required for all luncheons.
