BISCHOF, BURDIGE DEBATE GLOBAL WARMING MONDAY ON "WITH GOOD REASON"

A debate on global warming, featuring Old Dominion University faculty Jens Bischof, research assistant professor, and David Burdige, professor of ocean earth and atmospheric sciences, will be the topic on the radio program "With Good Reason" Monday, Sept. 2.

The show, which airs at 11 a.m. Mondays on WHRV-FM (89.5) and is hosted by Sarah McConnell, highlights the expertise of Virginia's college and university faculty. Produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, it is broadcast on 10 public radio stations in Virginia, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C.

While the overwhelming majority of scientists agree that the earth is warming up and that a worldwide reduction of CO2
emissions is needed to avert catastrophe, a small minority in the scientific community disagree. Bischof, the author of a recently published book on climate change, says contrary to the fears of most scientists, we're heading for an ice age and the global warming alarm is being sounded without sufficient scientific proof. Burdige fears that statements which seem to contradict the global warming theory confuse the public and distract us from focusing on reducing CO2 emissions.
