TWO FORMER LADY MONARCHS HEAD TO DC FOR WNBA ALL-STAR GAME
Two former Lady Monarch standouts will play prominent roles in the WNBA All-Star game July 15 in Washington, D.C. -- one as a coach and another as a player.
Anne Donovan '83 of the Charlotte Sting will coach the Eastern Conference All-Stars and Ticha Penicheiro '97 will be a starting guard for the Western Conference for the third consecutive year.
Penicheiro, who plays for the Sacramento Monarchs, is joined on the Western Conference team by Houston's Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson, Los Angeles' Lisa Leslie, and Seattle's Sue Bird. Michael Cooper of the Los Angeles Sparks will coach the squad.
Donovan's Eastern Conference starters are Washington Mystics forward Chamique Holdsclaw, Indiana's Tamika Catchings, New York's Tari Phillips and Teresa Weatherspoon, and Charlotte's Dawn Staley.
Reserve players will be announced July 10.
