THREE ENGINEERING FACULTY RECEIVE $10K CIT AWARD
Wes Lewis, civil engineering program director, Carol Considine, assistant professor of engineering technology, and Paul Kauffmann, chair of the Department of Engineering Technology, have been awarded a $10,000 Beneficial Use Determination Group Effort (BUDGE) grant from Virginia's Center for Innovative Technologies (CIT).
This project will promote sustainable economic development through technologies that promote the financial health of current industry by reducing disposal costs as well as the development of technologies and processes that transform waste streams into higher-value-added products.
The focus area for this project will be non-hazardous inorganic materials, including combustion byproducts (coal ash, bio solid ash, and municipal solid waste ash); mineral and mining by products such as residuals from mining and mineral processing; and mineral construction waste such as recycled concrete.
