THREE APPOINTED TO INTERIM POSITIONS BY PROVOST
Acting Provost David R. Hager announced the appointment of two university administrators and a faculty member to interim positions at Old Dominion University. Oktay Baysal, associate dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, will assume the role of interim dean; Janis Sanchez-Hucles, professor of psychology, has been named acting associate vice president for graduate studies; and Virginia O'Herron, associate university librarian, will be acting university librarian.
Baysal will take over the duties of William Swart, who has accepted a position as provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs at East Carolina University. A member of the Old Dominion faculty since 1982, Baysal has served as associate dean since 1999 and is professor and eminent scholar of aerospace engineering.
Sanchez-Hucles will assume the newly created position in graduate studies, which resulted from a reorganization of the Office of Research and Graduate Studies. A member of the Old Dominion faculty since 1979, Sanchez-Hucles has served as assistant dean of the College of Sciences and director of the graduate program in clinical psychology.
O'Herron will take over the duties of Jean Major, who will retire at the end of August after 10 years at Old Dominion. Prior to joining Old Dominion in 1993, O'Herron was the director of the State University System of Florida Extension Library in Tampa. She previously held professional positions at Baker &Taylor Company and DeVry Technical Institute.
